NCYS Representatives Attend Community Radio Workshop, Plan ‘Community Idea Station’ in Silchar

Silchar, Dec 5: A two-day Community Radio Awareness Workshop held on 4–5 December 2025 in Aizawl, Mizoram, concluded with enthusiastic participation from Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangstha (NCYS). The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi, and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Aizawl.

General Secretary Mr. Dilu Das and Vice President Mr. Nani Gopal Deb represented NCYS at the workshop, engaging in technical sessions, discussions, and hands-on training. The programme highlighted key aspects of Community Radio, including its policy framework, technical setup, content development, sustainability models, and operational management.

During the experience-sharing sessions, participants interacted with experts and representatives from successful Community Radio stations across the country. The practical insights and best practices presented during these sessions motivated the NCYS delegates to express a strong interest in establishing a ‘Community Radio Station’ in Silchar.

According to the representatives, such an initiative would create new opportunities for community involvement, promote local voices, strengthen cultural expression, and enhance public awareness efforts across the Barak Valley region. NCYS also announced plans to prepare a detailed roadmap for the project in accordance with government norms, technical standards, and available support schemes.

The organisation believes that the workshop has broadened their understanding and strengthened their resolve to develop a community-centric communication platform that will serve the people of Silchar and the wider region.
